My equine rescue and recovery hobby was inspired by an abused and slaughter-bound Arabian horse named Shilo (read his harrowing story on the About Shilo page. I rescue salvagable equines, horses who simply need a second chance for life, and then rehabilitate them. By recovering these animals and finding them homes, I make room for more horses in need of rescue.
I was able to raise the money to acquire a winter-proofed barn, complete with bedding and spacious outdoor paddocks, purposefully situated to shelter its tenants from the wind and rain. In summer, my rescues enjoy open rye-grass pastures and the shade of growing trees — as well as the peaceful company of each other.
My horses recover on five acres in the heart of almond- and walnut-growing country in northern California. Over the past 14 years, I have rescued hundreds of horses and helped to rescue hundreds more. For more information, visit Shilo's Inn and Horse Nation.
